Three is a Charm is an episode of The Ultimate Book of Spells animated series.
Summary[]
A mortie, non-magic person, named Verne comes to the magic school named Vonderland Boarding School. He meets Gus, second year junior wizard half-elf and Cassy, a third year junior witch. He is also confronted by the troublesome twins, Lucrezia and Borge. Luckily their mischief is interrupted by Headmistress Crystalgazer.
But none of this is as unbelievable as what happens when Cassy receives a delivery from the Dwarf Dragon Mail service. The package introduces himself as UBoS will teach them to battle the Supreme Wizard Zarlak in the center of the Earth who is stealing magic from the world. And the adventure begins.
Plot[]
A dwarf dragon named Steps is flying over the town of Hamburg as he delivers his satchel of Dwarf Dragon Mail. He gives a brief narration of the enchanted nature of the town as he flies of toward his delivery at Vonderland. He arrives just as a new student is about to enter the school.
Verne, is dropped off for his first day by his parents and he see it as an enchanted castle with a flying griffon. His parents however can only see an ordinary modern school. He tries explaining what he saw and then just thinks he’s seeing things. After his parents drive away, Verne is greeted by the enchanted portcullis named Porty. Gus and Cassy are flying on their Scootsoomers and notice the he is a mortie. They then scooped hum up and fly into the school. Verne does not believe all he sees like ghost teachers, talking paintings and talking statues.
He next encounters the troublesome twins, Lucrezia and Borge. They harass him for being a mortie and start an argument with Cassy. They were about to hex her when Miss Crystalgazer appears in the form of a cat. She scolds the twins for teasing their new student and asks Gus and Cassy to look after Verne.
They fly off with him off to the dormitory where Elfin, one of the school prefects, informs them that Verne will be rooming with Gus. When their soomers barge into the bedroom, they tumble on top of a clockwork frog toy named Prince Erbert. He is outraged and rants about how he deserves better treatment even if an evil witch coursed him into a frog.
At that point then the Steps enters the window with a parcel for Cassy. She opens her package to reveal an enchanted book titled Journey to the Center of the Earth with the face of an old man on the front cover. Verne said he knows that book but UBoS explains he is different and he can prove it. Gus and Cassy are eager to see for themselves and they are all teleported away.
He transports Verne, Gus, Cassy and Erbert underground and introduces himself as UBoS which stands for the Ultimate Book of Spells. He further explains how the Supreme Wizard Zarlak is stealing magic from the world and he will tutor them to stop Zarlak because the three of them can have great power together. None of them realize they are being watched by Snerrat and Rowce, two of Zarlak'c ratfinkle henchmen.
The ratfinkles follow them as Gus and Cassy tells Verne the story of how Cassy's Great, Great Grandfather Supreme Wizard Gez battled Zarlak and banished him to this realm. UBoS tells them all that they must finish what Gez started and not to let anyone know what they are doing. They all protest to this condition, especially Erbert. In the end, they all agree.
Snerrat and Rowce report back to Zarlak and he heads off to confront the children himself. Zarlak demands them to hand over the book and UBoS gives his first lesson to run. As the kids retaliate, Zarlak turns Snerrat and Rowce into a two headed ratfinkle with his staff to prove his power. When Zarlak realizes that Vern is a mortie he laughs manically at the insult, but Verne has the last laugh when he picks up Cassy's wand and shows some power of his own.
With the power of Verne's new found magic, and the blunder of Snerrat and Rowce, he sent Zarlak running this time. Everyone was surprised by this except UBoS for he knew Verne had "The Gift" all along. With this surprising defeat of supreme wizard, UBoS teleports everyone back to Vonderland.
They return back to school just in time for spell casting class and they land at their desks.
